  • DOES RELIEF EFFECT THE MIXEDWOOD PLAINS?

  • I need to know if RELIEF in LOWERN effects this ecozone. I haven't found any strong information to back up if it does or doesn't.

  • Not Really except for the fact that with the Niagara Escarpment, relief would affect the amount and form of the precipitation but cause of the precipitation, no.

Relief in LOWERN involves mountains acting as barriers to moist wind. The winds blowing over the mountains must ride so the clouds then form and it rains on the windward side of the mountains leaving the leeward side in the rain shadow area. There are no true mountain systems in the Mixed wood however there is the Niagara Escarpment. I know the escarpment will because of altitude cause the rain to come as snow and I would think that it would act a barrier to some extent and cause some rain to fall because of the relief itself.
