  • There are certian features I need for what I am looking for, and I can't tell if vB has them. I can pay for project tools if necessary, but I need these features.

    Forums where people are let in on an individual basis by a forum moderator. People will be appointed a leader of a specific forum, and members of the site can be allowed into the forum by these forum moderators. The forum moderators also can moderate their forum, but no other forum. Outside of that specific forum, they don't really have authority to do anything.

    I need currencies of some kind. And advanced controls for those currencies. Admins can give currency to other members without actually possessing the currency themselves. People obtain different currency amounts for different size posts in different forums (I've seen some pretty advanced mods for phpBB, so I'm hoping for the same from vB).

    I need a "trader feedback" type thing.

    There must be a multitude of options in the BBC, what I'm seeing here is pretty good, however other functions like strike though and blink would be nice. If there's a way to add those that would be great. Or if HTML can be used that would work as well.

    I'm still working out how I want this to work, however those are the major features I need, atleast that I can think of right now. The first 3 are crucial!

    Oh, and I need people to have the option of buying the forum currency (basically an incentive for donation).


  • Cool, the tags are nice too. I didn't think of it before, but that is definitely a feature which could prove to be useful. Can people search by tags, and can all users add tags (or can I set it that way)?

    Another I forgot, an invite only function. Is there a system which can allow me to close down registrations, except for members who are invited to join.

    And is there a built in system for creating pages. For instance, I need a page that's about 15,000 characters, really too long for a forum post (without people clicking on it constantly eating up tons of bandwidth). These could be linked to on a specialised forum homepage. I believe people often refer to these as a "portal". This is non-essential, though it would be a nice addition.

    Also, is there a low-bandwidth view option. Basically just has links and text. I will be trying to keep resource usage down so giving this option would be nice. Assuming there is (I'm quite sure I've seen it before on other vB boards, but I can't find it now so I thought I'd ask), is there a way I can display ads on the full view, and not display ads on the low-bandwidth view. This gives and incentive to use the low-bandwidth view.


  • Ok for the first feature, you can assign users as moderators to specific boards. To set those to also allow only selected members in you could do that in one of 2 ways, a board password only those mods know, or a public user group where those mods are added as group leaders. Then users who want access would have to request membership of the group (which you set as the only group with access to that board) and the mods then approve or disapprove the membership request.

    For the other features, you should try over at vBulletin.org for modifications. Im pretty sure there are some that fit your needs.
