So, if my sql database is small enough that I'm not running into time-outs, is the built-in backup method (with all options checked) in the admin control panel fully reliable and completely safe?
If so, does that mean that if someday I need to restore the DB, I could telnet SSH in at that time and restore with a mysqldump using the .sql file created by the admin panel without any trouble at all?
Thanks in advance for replying...I'm asking because of a permissions problem not allowing me to use telnet to backup my DB. I know that y'all recommend a host with telnet privs, but I'm very happy with the setup in all other ways, so I'm just worried about maintaining a quality backup. Thanks!bump?
anybody know??To determine if it's complete, make sure the last line reads:
UNLOCK TABLES;hmmmm... but none of my .sql files have ever ended that way... not even the telnet mysqldump ones... and one of those dumps i even used to reinstall the forums at the new server w/o any trouble... what does that mean?
are my forums not working correctly if they've never ended with that sentence?Actually I just took a look at several of my backups sql files and they all ended that way which is why I suggested this. Perhaps I'm wrong about this. It wouldn't be the first time!Yes.. if the backup completes it should be reliable.Ooops just realized there's a mysql forum... I guess this might've been better placed there. Sorry.#If you have any other info about this subject , Please add it free.# |
