  • Why is my NAS not seen by Xbob when my PC is not switched on?

  • I have a LANDRIVE with NAS-BASIC45E firmware and the latest XBMC. The LANDRIVE is connected directly to my wireless router. XBMC can access the NAS with no problem when there is a PC switched on in my network.

But when only the NAS and the router is on (All other PC's are off), XBMC cannot find the NAS. What seems to be causing this problem and how can I resolve it?

  • Hi

I have a similar set up using a nslu2 network link. It sound as if xbmc is using the ip of your computer to access the landrive then as soon as you log off the computer the route is unavailable. Im not familiar with the landrive with with the nslu2 i added a share which used the name instead of an associated ipddress. I usually edit the sourses.xml direct as you used to have to do that. Try adding a smb share that way.

ie in the /videos or /music section of sources of .xml (e:appsxbmcuserdatasources.xml) add a bookmark like

    Movie and Dvd Collection
    smb://LKG312715/movies

Above is my example, my nslu2 is called lkg312715 on the network and the share is name movies, in xbmc the share appears as movie and dvd collection. You can change it for music or wahtever you want to share.

  • it's possible the landrive doesn't have a master browser service. without that it will never tell clients where it is. xbmc doesn't have one and relies on that something else on the network has one. this is the way it does the name->ip conversion.

you could enter the ip directly of your landrive in the share, that way it won't need a master browser on the network.
